What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a form of alternative medicine originated by Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843), based on the idea that a substance that causes the symptoms of a disease in healthy people will cure that disease in sick people. This idea is known as “the law of similars” or “like cures like”. Scientific research has found homeopathic remedies ineffective and their postulated mechanisms of action implausible and within the medical community homeopathy is generally considered quackery.
Is homeopathy effective?
Some say YES, others say NO. Homeopathic remedies have been the subject of numerous clinical trials, which test the possibility that they may be effective through some mechanism unknown to science. While some individual studies have positive results, systematic reviews of published trials have failed to demonstrate efficacy.
Is homeopathy safe during pregnancy?
My experience with homeopathy in pregnancy.
I had terrible heartburn and tried different things. I didn’t want to use the medicine prescribed by my doctor because the information sheet stated that pregnant women should not take it. When I informed my doctor about this, he said that the sheet was old and he wouldn’t prescribe anything harmful for the baby. Still, I wasn’t convinced. What I did discover was that apples worked well in preventing my heartburn for around 2 months but then they were not as effective.
During my prenatal course our midwife suggested that we take Chelidoxil for nausea and heartburn. It must be an Italian product since I can’t find any information about it in English. The results? Amazing! I feel great, I have no heartburn, nausea, I’m not vomiting. My last days of pregnancy are a delight!

I saw a documentary on Homeopathy a few moths ago and almost all the scientists they’ve interviewed said it can’t work simply because most homeopathy medicines contain very low doses of active substances. For some products it is so much diluted that it’s the same as one drop of active substance in the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes when it works on somebody, something happens in the head, that’s all.
Well, whether it’s in the head or not, it’s working for my body! 🙂
