5 Surprising Ways To Give Birth

FAST – how about getting it over with in 2 minutes? Well it has happened before! A British lady delivered a healthy baby girl in less than 120 seconds after her waters broke. The mother did a lot of walking during her pregnancy and she thinks that the exercise helped the baby’s smooth delivery. No wonder my midwife recommends belly dancing! “

FREE – also known as unassisted birth is giving birth at home without the aid of doctors or midwives. Family and friends may be present but no one acts as a midwife. Instead, the birthing woman herself determines the course of her labor. The birthing mother needs to be supported emotionally, or simply left alone. All the knowledge she needs to birth her baby is already within her. Her job is simply to relax, trust her body, and allow her baby to enter the world.

OUT OF THE BLUE – in the park or in a public toilet but if you’re actually reading this post it means, that you are interested in the topic and aware of where babies come from. It’s usually teenagers who go through their pregnancies totally oblivious to what is going on in their bodies and then end up surprised they delivered a human being from their who-ha.

ON THE PLANE – my doctor told me I would need a certificate if I wanted to fly anywhere in my third trimester but some women get all the approvals the airlines require and manage to give birth while in the air anyway! I wonder if the baby will fly free of charge for life?

ON STAGE – who said giving birth was an intimate and private event? One New York Artist decided to give birth in her gallery as a live performance entitled “The Birth of Baby X“. The artist states that “the exhibition received worldwide media attention and critical response, opening discussions on issues of birth in our society as well as the boundaries between life and art”. I wonder why! 🙂

I remember that as a little girl I used to dream of giving birth on the plane because I was convinced my baby would get free travels with that airline for the rest of his life. But now that I’m a bigger girl I consciously decided not to fly in my third trimester to decrease any change of delivering a premature baby. I’m not planning on any stage performances as I want a very intimate birthing environment – not a free birth though as I do want doctors to be present in the unlikely case of an emergency. I would really want it to happen quickly but I certainly don’t want it to happen so quickly that I would accidentally flush the baby down the toilet.

I want a birthing pool, music, dimmed lights, focus, relaxation and my husband feeding me chocolate as I bring our baby to the world.
